Tinnitus symptoms left untreated
It can cause difficulty in getting to sleep, anxiety, irritability, frustration, anger, depression and in the most extreme cases it can lead to suicidal thoughts.
It may become very difficult to be in silence at all. The noises can be very different from person to person. They may involve clicking, pulsing, rushing or humming, low pitched ringing, or the most coming of all, high pitched ringing.
No one really knows what causes tinnitus but it is often an underlying condition such as an ear injury, age related hearing loss or a circulatory system issue.
When we become super aware or anxious about tinnitus it leads to us becoming more anxious and so more aware. It is a vicious cycle which can be hard to break out of.
Hypnotherapy is wonderful for those who need a little help to overcome this anxiety and over awareness. I am a tinnitus sufferer myself and so have used self-hypnosis to help me become less and less aware of it. As I’m writing this though I’m super aware! I know though, once I have finished, it will disappear into the background again.
