Lack of Sleep
You will probably feel tired, if not exhausted when you wake up and feel daytime fatigue throughout. Often insomnia sufferers feel irritable and are unable to concentrate and difficulty in remembering things and taking in information.
Insomnia left untreated
Untreated insomnia can lead to more serious problems such as accidents, high blood pressure, obesity and depression.
Advise for Insomnia
There is loads of advice out there – removing any electronics, regular bedtimes, low lights, no caffeine, alcohol, cigarettes, not drinking too much liquid, regulating the temperature of your bedroom, using aromatherapy oils such as lavender.
Anxiety and Insomnia
These can all help hugely of course. However, if your underlying anxiety is quite high it can impact on your sleep. The mind and body are intrinsically linked. The more anxious you become about not sleeping, the less you are able to do so.
Your conscious mind is that part of your mind that sleeps. Your subconscious mind stays alert and busy throughout.
If your subconscious is feeling anxious it’s protective fight or flight response starts. If this part of your mind is preparing your body to do one of those two things, it doesn’t want your conscious mind to be fast asleep. It wants you ready and prepared to run or fight!
